Mai 1980 brach der Mount St. Helens heftig aus. Die gesamte Nordflanke des Berges rutschte ab. Die Temperaturunterschiede sind allerdings auf die&#160; Sonneneinstrahlung zur\u00fcckzuf\u00fchren und nicht auf vulkanische T\u00e4tigkeit.
